So, I'm the worst blogger ever....

Sorry to any of you who were actually trying to keep up with my training.
I can hardly keep up with myself.... let alone my blog.

But, you should know that I have been training still, and that the race is THIS SUNDAY!! I'm anxious/nervous to see what happens with it. But, no matter how I do in the race, I know that my efforts (along with your money) have/will impact many people.

I want to thank all of you that have helped me reach my fundraising goal! Your donations will help save many lives that have been affected by these cancers!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

check back next week to see how I finished....

New Bike!!

I finally bought my road bike!! yaaay
It's amazing how much easier the rides are.

Saturday we had a 'mini brick'.
Rode for 1 hour, then ran for 20 min.
That run was a lot harder than I wanted it to be....
My legs were so tired after the ride!

I'm gettin stronger, though. Swimming is coming along too.

Exactly 2 months until the race!!

So I'm Staying in Texas....

Alright. I guess that $4400 wasn't a realistic fundraising goal for me.

So, I'm switching it up. Instead of traveling to CA for the Triathlon at Pacific Grove, I'm going to be competing in the Dave Scott Texas Man Tri. in Dallas.

So, for those of you who have already donated, THANK YOU!! (and don't worry I'm still competing)

For those of you who have been putting it off.... I STILL NEED YOUR HELP.

My new goal is $2400. And I need $600 (total) by July 10th.
So far, I have raised $440.

My training is still going well. I'm currently looking for a road bike (so that I don't have to train on my old mountain bike anymore). Running is about the same. Still gettin in my runs, but the weather is getting hot! Swimming after I'm done running is a welcome relief (at least for cooling off). The swim workouts are getting longer, but I'm still hanging in there!

Thanks again for all the support!

What What the Email

So, I'm finally getting my emails out!! And I'm not gonna lie to you - I'm getting a little nervous about my fundraising. I'm supposed to have 25% of my money raised by JULY 3RD!! yikes

I've been doin my part.... training is going well.
My swimming is really coming along. It's a lot easier now that I know the correct way!

The weather is making training more of a challenge. It's either really hot, or thunderstorming.
But, we're puttin in work!

Saturday morning (as every Sat. goes) we had team training where we ran, then swam.
Dwamian & I ran about 5 miles in 40 minutes!! MOOOOVIN (for a sprinter and a jumper)
The swimming workouts are kicking my butt. I can finish them well and everything. I'm just not used to swimming that far yet.

My training will get there.

But, to saves lives and to get to California, I NEED YOUR HELP!

Don't be shy!!
No donation is too small (or too BIG!!)

This is for a GREAT cause. I really appreciate all your support.

Need to reach that goal.

Ok, so maybe I gave you the wrong idea with my first post! A few days ago, in my post, I said this:
"Now I know that I don't have a lot of "extra" money (who does?) to donate to any of these research organizations..."

Well when I said "who does", I wasn't talking about you :) Here's why:

In order to compete in this triathlon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society/Team in Training, I need to raise $4,400. 75% of this money will go towards cures for blood cancers like leukemia -- the No. 1 disease killer of children -- lymphoma and myeloma.

**How serious is blood cancer? Every five minutes, someone in the United States learns that he or she has leukemia, Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma. Every ten minutes, someone dies of a blood cancer.**

The Society's roots stretch back to 1949, when the de Villiers family experienced the devastation of leukemia with the death of their 16-year-old son, Robert Roesler de Villiers. Family members and friends declared war on the disease by creating The Robert Roesler de Villiers Foundation, funding research to find a cure. The foundation later became The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Our mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Team In Training® History
Team In Training (TNT) began in 1988, when Bruce Cleland of Rye, NY formed a team that raised funds and trained to run the New York City Marathon in honor of Cleland's daughter Georgia, a leukemia survivor.

The team of 38 runners raised $322,000 for the Society's Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter. Because of the pioneering efforts of Cleland and the Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter, Team In Training was born and has grown into the world's largest endurance sports training program. Cleland was honored by Runner's World magazine in 2004 as one of their "Heroes of Running" for his role in establishing TNT.

So, I am part of this mission now! And in order to reach my goals, I need YOUR help. Any money that you can spare (even if it's just a couple dollars) I would really appreciate it. If you would like to help me, please go here>>

HELP ME SAVE LIVES!!

14 June 2007

Saving Lives. One Mile at a Time

So, here I am. 23 years old with a lot of competition left in me, and a desire to help people.

Along comes a request from my boss to compete in a triathlon through Team in Training. (No pressure. But, it’ll change your life! You get in shape, and help save lives of people diagnosed with blood cancers. Oh, and we just got back from competing in Hawaii…. You’ll get to go to California. No pressure, I’m just asking!)

How can I say no? I can kick ass, take names, and SAVE LIVES!

I don’t know anyone personally that has been diagnosed with a blood cancer. But, that’s not a good enough reason for me to deny helping them. I can still relate to these families that are suffering through a loved one’s sickness – in my family, we’ve had breast cancer, lung cancer, heart disease, diabetes…. We’ll just about everything besides blood cancer.

And I want to help end it all!

Now I know that I don't have a lot of "extra" money (who does?) to donate to any of these research organizations, so I’ll do what I can....

I'm an athlete. I know I can run. 4 years of D1 track proved this…. So what if I was “just a high jumper” and I complained about running one lap, and that I got injured after my second year and didn’t really compete too much after that; I was still on the team….

Ok so I’m not really sure that 2 solid years of college high jumping proves that I can run 6.2 miles during a triathlon…. But let’s just say that it does.

As for biking - haven't ridden one since I was a kid, but I'm sure I still can! It should come back to me like, well, riding a bike I guess. I hope it does.

Swimming - I probably won't drown. I watched my boys swim in high school ((shout out Andy, Lappy, & Adam – muah)) And I was on the swim team when I was nine! (I got the "you're not that good, but thanks for trying" ribbons….. shut up! that still counts – say it to my face!!)

So, even if I don't end up kicking ass and taking names (not an option btw) I can still save lives.... we'll see what happens

*check back to see how I’m doing!
